NATO Sits Quietly As Germany / US Defends Israeli Bombardment In Gaza

Germany, US Defend Israeli Raids in Gaza as Protests Mount

Germany and the US defend Israel's Gaza air raids which have killed over 300, saying they are meant to protect the country's civilians even as pro-Gaza protests grow in the Arab world and Europe.

Germany on Monday blamed Hamas for the outbreak of violence in the Gaza Strip and urged the Islamist group which has controlled Gaza since 2007 to stop firing rockets so that Israel's attack on the territory could end.

"It is the legitimate right of Israel to protect its civilian population and to defend its territory," German government spokesman Thomas Steg told a press briefing in Berlin.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert had agreed in a telephone conversation that responsibility for the escalation lay "clearly and exclusively with Hamas," Steg said. "Hamas has unilaterally broken the ceasefire agreement."

Merkel also urged Olmert to ensure that steps were taken to avoid civilian casualties and allow urgently needed humanitarian supplies across the border into Gaza, Steg said. He added that the chancellor believed the conflict could only be resolved through a political process at the end of which there was a two-state solution.

News of Fabricated Holocaust Memoir Sparks Anger, Sadness

Monday, December 29, 2008

NEW YORK — It's the latest story that touched, and betrayed, the world.

"Herman Rosenblat and his wife are the most gentle, loving, beautiful people," literary agent Andrea Hurst said Sunday, anguishing over why she, and so many others, were taken by Rosenblat's story of love born on opposite sides of a barbed-wire fence at a Nazi concentration camp in Germany.

"I question why I never questioned it. I believed it; it was an incredible, hope-filled story."

On Saturday, Berkley Books canceled Rosenblat's memoir, "Angel at the Fence." Rosenblat acknowledged that he and his wife did not meet, as they had said for years, at a sub-camp of Buchenwald, where she allegedly sneaked him apples and bread. The book was supposed to come out in February.

Rosenblat, 79, has been married to the former Roma Radzicky for 50 years, since meeting her on a blind date in New York. In a statement issued Saturday through his agent, he described himself as an advocate of love and tolerance who falsified his past to better spread his message.

"I wanted to bring happiness to people," said Rosenblat, who now lives in the Miami area. "I brought hope to a lot of people. My motivation was to make good in this world."

Rosenblat's believers included not only his agent and his publisher, but TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey, film producers, journalists, family members and strangers who ignored, or did not know about, the warnings from scholars that his story did not make sense.

Other Holocaust memoirists have devised greater fantasies. Misha Defonseca, author of "Misha: A Memoire of the Holocaust Years," pretended she was a Jewish girl who lived with wolves during the war, when she was actually a non-Jew who lived, without wolves, in Belgium.

Historical records prove Rosenblat was indeed at Buchenwald and other camps.

"How sad that he felt he had to embellish a life of surviving the Holocaust and of being married for half a century," said Holocaust scholar Michael Berenbaum.

The damage is broad. Publishing, the most trusting of industries, has again been burned by a memoir that fact-checking might have prevented. Berkley is an imprint of Penguin Group (USA), which in March pulled Margaret B. Jones' "Love and Consequences" after the author acknowledged she had invented her story of gang life in Los Angeles. Winfrey fell, as she did with James Frey, for a narrative of suffering and redemption better suited for television than for history.

The damage is deep. Scholars and other skeptics as well as fellow survivors fear that Rosenblat's fabrications will only encourage doubts about the Holocaust.

"I am very worried because many of us speak to thousands of students each year," says Sidney Finkel, a longtime friend of Rosenblat's and a fellow survivor. "We go before audiences. We tell them a story and now some people will question what I experienced."

"This was not Holocaust education but miseducation," Ken Waltzer, director of Jewish Studies at Michigan State University, said in a statement.

"Holocaust experience is not heartwarming, it is heart rending. All this shows something about the broad unwillingness in our culture to confront the difficult knowledge of the Holocaust," Waltzer said. "All the more important then to have real memoirs that tell of real experience in the camps."

Among the fooled, at least the partially fooled, was Berenbaum, former director of the United States Holocaust Research Institute at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington. Berenbaum had been asked to read the manuscript by film producer Harris Salomon, who still plans an adaptation of the book.

Berenbaum's tentative support — "Crazier things have happened," he told The Associated Press last fall — was cited by the publisher as it initially defended the book. Berenbaum now says he saw factual errors, including Rosenblat's description of Theresienstadt, the camp from which he was eventually liberated, but did not think of challenging the love story.

"There's a limit to what I can verify, because I was not there," he says. "I can verify the general historical narrative, but in my research I rely upon the survivors to present the specifics of their existence with integrity. When they don't, they destroy so much and they ruin so much, and that's terrible."

"I was burned," he added. "And I have to read books more skeptically because I was burned."

A United Religious Nations - Happy New Year!

Christen,Juden,Muslime - Wem gehört der Urvater der Religionen?

Jona Metzger, the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel: "When Abraham came, he saw the sun rising, setting and the world turning and he thought, who is causing all these to move?"

SPIEGEL INTERVIEW WITH RABBI YONA METZGER

'My Dream Is to Create a United Religious Nations'

Yona Metzger, the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, talks to SPIEGEL ONLINE about the Abraham as the father of all three monotheistic religions -- Islam, Christianity and Judaism -- and explains how that connection could be a starting point for a dialogue of peace between them.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Chief Rabbi, Jews refer to Abraham as "Our Father Abraham." How difficult is it for you to accept the fact that Christians and Muslims also call Abraham their father?

Metzger: This is not difficult at all. It fits very well with the Jewish religion. A close look at the word "Abraham" reveals that it is constructed from the words "father of many nations." So, if Muslims associate themselves with Abraham's son Ismael, or Christians associate themselves with Abraham's grandson Esau, or we associate ourselves with his other grandson Jacob, then three great monotheistic religions were born from him.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: What is Abraham's function in the Bible?

Metzger: The great Jewish philosopher Maimonides explained this very impressively. God created various objects in heaven. The sun, for example, or the moon and the stars -- they are all high above us. This was understood to mean that God wanted us to respect them more than the things which were created on Earth. Gradually things went wrong. Instead of praying directly to God, the people turned the objects into targets of their prayers.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: They worshipped idols.

Metzger: When Abraham came, he saw the sun rising, setting and the world turning and he thought, who is causing all these to move? There has to be someone above all these. So he essentially was saying: "You have stopped halfway. There is someone above these objects you worship! So why go to the ministers? Let's go directly to the king." And so he commenced a journey which touched many people. Together with his wife Sarah, he traveled from place to place and developed the philosophy of belief in one God. Slowly but surely many people gathered around him and today most of the population of the world is monotheistic: Christianity, Islam, Judaism ...

SPIEGEL ONLINE: ... 3.5 billion people ...

Metzger: Perhaps even more. I met with leaders of the Hindu religion, who I was certain were idol worshippers, but their leaders said they also believe in God -- it's just that they believe He has a way through the idols. And some Buddhists say that Buddha is only a worldview, and not a religious belief. We see that most of the world really follows the path of Abraham.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: But one gets the sense that the Jews think that they are the original and Christians and Muslims are only "copies."

Metzger: Well, from the historical perspective it was so. Jesus was a Jew. Subsequently Christianity came into the world and then Islam. These were the steps, historically -- not the other way round. When Jesus was in Jerusalem, he was not familiar with a church or a mass -- that is certain. He knew only one thing: the Holy Temple. After his time, the rest was developed by his disciples.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: But Christians stress that Abraham believed in God before he became circumsized and actually became Jewish.

Metzger: Abraham had no rabbi, no teacher. He was taught the law by his kishkes as we say in Jiddish, "from his own two kidneys." That is to say, he learned by himself and through himself. It is interesting to note that the Torah calls Abraham an Ivri, "a Hebraic."

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Is it important for you whether Abraham was a real historic person? Historians and archeologists have not found any clear proof that Abraham has ever lived.

Metzger: I believe that the Bible represents fully the true history of the world. If historians or archeologists find proofs, we are delighted, but we don't need them.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: When you look at the historical perspective, much blood was spilled in the name of religion. So how can a dialogue be conducted between religions?

Metzger: Look, Abraham specifically is very helpful regarding dialogue -- and I will give you an example. Once I had a meeting with an Iranian leader. He was one of the heads of the Ayatollahs. Initially he did not want to shake my hand, but eventually I turned to him and asked him: "Do you believe that your forefather was Abraham?"

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Ibrahim, as the Muslims call him in Arabic.

Metzger: Yes. Ibrahim. And he answered, "Yes." I said to him that I also believe that my father was Abraham. So I asked him, "Do you believe that our forefather would be pleased today -- up in heaven -- seeing that one son kills himself in order to kill his other son? Which father would delight in such a thing?" He did not have an answer.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: So Abraham could serve as a vehicle for dialogue?

Metzger: Yes. Even if you have a brother who you believe is not a good person and you think that the world needs to be Muslim -- do not kill! If you want, speak, put it on the table and be cultured. Like every father Abraham would expect that his children sit down at the table instead of killing each other.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Can you give another example of dialogue?

Metzger: During a recess, in a conference which took place in Europe, one of the heads of the Muslim Courts in Jordan invited me to a cup of coffee in the lobby of the hotel. We sat for about half an hour. I began telling him about some of my problems; I told him about my family, my children, some issues with rabbis and the chief rabbis that are under me and the responsibilities I have. He told me about his problems. At the end he stood up, shook my hand and told me: "Now, after having told me all of your stories, and after I have told you all of my stories, I cannot hate you."

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Do you believe that religious people are better equipped to bring peace to the world?

Metzger: Definitely. My dream is to create a United Religious Nations -- just as there is the United Nations in New York. The diplomats did not succeed in bringing peace to the world. They need help. And this can come through religious language. Because a Muslim does not respect a person who is secular; he will only have respect if you are religious. This Religious United Nations would also include Hindus and Buddists. We religious people speak the same language.

Abraham's purported burial site in Hebron in the West Bank: Religious leaders believe references to Abraham, who is prominent in Christianity, Judaism and Islam, can help start a dialogue between the religions and help to stop a conflict of civilizations.

Congratulations Rick Warren!!! America Has Chosen You To Be Her Pastor!! Ousting The Elder Billy Graham, Joel Olsteen And T.D. Jakes

Posted: 07:12 PM ET

From
Warren is founder of the Saddleback Church.
Warren is founder of the Saddleback Church.

(CNN) — Prominent liberal groups and gay rights proponents criticized President-elect Barack Obama Wednesday for choosing evangelical pastor Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the presidential inauguration next month.

Warren, one of the most powerful religious leaders in the nation, has championed issues such as calling for the reduction of global poverty, human rights abuses, and the AIDS epidemic.

But the founder of the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, has also adhered to socially conservative stances — including his opposition to gay marriage and abortion rights that puts him at odds with many in the Democratic Party, especially the party's most liberal wing.

"[It's] shrewd politics, but if anyone is under any illusion that Obama is interested in advancing gay equality, they should probably sober up now," Andrew Sullivan wrote on the Atlantic Web site Wednesday.

People for the American Way President Kathryn Kolbert told CNN she is "deeply disappointed" with the choice of Warren, and said the powerful platform at the inauguration should instead have been given to someone who is "consistent mainstream American values.

"There is no substantive difference between Rick Warren and James Dobson," Kolbert said. "The only difference is tone. His tone is moderate, but his ideas are radical."

Dobson, a social conservative leader, is founder and chairman of Focus on the Family.

Linda Douglass, a spokeswoman for Obama, defended the choice of Warren, saying, "This is going to be the most inclusive, open, accessible inauguration in American history."

"The president-elect certainly disagrees with him on [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender] issues. But it has always been his goal to find common ground with people with whom you may disagree on some issues."

Douglass also noted Obama and Warren agree on several issues including advocating on behalf of the poor and the disadvantaged, and people who suffer from HIV/AIDS.

Warren's support of California's Proposition 8 — a measure that outlaws same sex marriage in the state — sparked the ire of many gay rights proponents earlier this fall.

Warren, who has made it a practice not to endorse candidates or political parties, wrote in October that the issue of gay marriage is not a political issue, but instead "a moral issue that God has spoken clearly about."

"For 5,000 years, every culture and every religion - not just Christianity - has defined marriage as a contract between men and women," Warren wrote in a newsletter to his congregation. "There is no reason to change the universal, historical definition of marriage to appease 2 percent of our population."

Warren also stirred controversy earlier this week when he told Beliefnet.com his grounds for opposing gay marriage laid primarily on his right of free speech.

"There were all kinds of threats that if [Proposition 8] did not pass then any pastor could be considered doing hate speech if he shared his views that he didn’t think homosexuality was the most natural way for relationships, and that would be hate speech."

Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights campaign, said Wednesday he feels "deep level of disrespect" over the choice of Warren and is calling on Obama to reconsider the move.

"By inviting Rick Warren to your inauguration, you have tarnished the view that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans have a place at your table," Solmonese said in an open letter to Obama that was released by his organization.

In his recent interview with Beliefnet, Warren also sparked outrage among supporters of abortion rights for criticizing those who have said abortion would be "safe and rare."

“Don’t tell me it should be rare," he said in the interview. "That’s like saying on the Holocaust, ‘Well, maybe we could save 20 percent of the Jewish people in Poland and Germany and get them out and we should be satisfied with that — I’m not satisfied with that. I want the Holocaust ended.”

But Warren, whose church attracts over 20,000 people a week, has widely been recognized for his attempts to expand the evangelical movement beyond socially conservative issues.

In the 2008 election, Warren hosted Obama and Sen. John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, at a candidate forum held in his church.

His book “The Purpose Driven Life” has sold over 20 million copies since it was first published five years ago, and Time Magazine named him one of the 25 most influential evangelicals in 2005.

"Many believe that Warren…is the successor to the [Rev. Billy Graham] for the role of America's minister," Time wrote in 2005.

Rick Warren the new Billy Graham?

The Saddleback pastor will deliver the invocation at the inauguration, the Times reports.

Warren remains well to Obama's right on social issues, and he's taken some recent criticism on the questions of torture and same-sex marriage, but his presence is a sign that it's never too soon to start thinking about 2012, and that the optics of the inauguration are more about reaching out than about celebrating Democratic victory.

Food Fight! Beliefnet Bloggers Debate Rick Warren

Wednesday December 17, 2008

FoodFightAnimalHouse-185x141.jpgThere's a bit of an in-house dust-up here at Bnet over Steve Waldman's extensive interview with Rick Warren (VIDEO / TRANSCRIPT). Steve's posted on it a few times, as have others around the blogosphere.

But here in the friendly confines of Bnet, a couple of my peers are at odds over the Purpose-Driven (TM) Pastor's comments.

Paul Raushenbush takes umbrage at Warren's stereotype-driven dismissal of the social gospel, which Warren says, "was just Marxism in Christian clothing." Paul is the great-grandson of Walter Rauschenbush (they lost a "c" in one of those generations) -- and Walter was one of the founders of the so-called "social gospel" -- so Paul is understandably defensive at Rick's flippant denunciation of one of the 20th century's more signficant religious movements.

In the other corner, Scot McKnight comments on Paul's blog, calling his post "nit-pickingly silly" and goes on to comment that "Rick Warren is not the one to pick on." In his own post on the subject, Scot accuses the commenters on Paul's blog of being liberal fundamentalists, just as zealous and closed-minded as conservative fundamentalists.

For my part, I find myself in the middle. I agree with Paul: I have Rick Warren fatigue, too. It seems the only reason that he sat down with Steve, a true journalist, for an extended interview is that Rick's got a new addition to the Purpose-Driven (TM) Empire that he's hawking -- a book about Christmas. Now, far be it from me to object to an author trying to sell books, but this is a particularly big week for Rick: the book, the much-blogged-about interview, and now we hear that he will be praying the invocation at BO's inauguration. (This last bit, I'd like to believe, isn't an enormous pander on BO's part. But I just cannot see it any other way, and I do find it a disappointing choice.)

But I also agree with Scot that Rick's persistent work on social issues is noteworthy. In fact, it seems clear to me that Rick's concentration on fighting AIDS in Africa did a great deal to de-stigmatize that tyoe of work among many evangelicals.

I've never met Rick Warren. Back in 2000, his secretary called me and asked for a manuscript of the book I was writing. I don't know how he'd heard about it; and, at that time, he'd only written The Purpose-Driven Church, which sold a mere 1% of the 35+ million he's sold of PDL. I never heard if he liked -- or even read -- my book. But it was an odd phone call to receive.

Ultimately, I'm confounded by Rick Warren. I get that he has a certain brilliance, writing Christianity to the masses in a way I never will (on writing PDL, he told Charlie Rose, "I tried to make it very simple. . . . If I had a twenty-seven-word sentence, I'd try to make it down to nine.") He's obviously friendly and winsome -- in fact, I've met conservative rabbis who've sat under his tutelage regarding church/synagogue growth who rave about him.

But some of Rick's comments in this interview are so naive and theologically/philosophically/constitutionally unsophisticated that it worries me that he's being given Billy Graham's mantle as "America's pastor." For instance:

  • If a pastor speaks out against same sex marriage, he can be accused of hate speech and denied his first amendment rights
  • That same sex marriage is the moral equivalent to brother-sister incest.
  • That he's got no answer to the problem of theodicy.
  • That he thinks W engaged in torture, but since W never asked his opinion, he never shared it.
  • His aforementioned caricature of the social gospel.

obama-and-rick-warren1.jpgI'm sure Rick means well, but I think that Obama and McCain set a dangerous precendent by having a summit on his stage. And I'd like to hope that "America's Pastor" will do some theological reflection on some of these issues.

Pirates Expose Shocking Shifts in Naval Power

December 17, 2008 | From theTrumpet.com

Revelations about three nations have emerged from events off the Horn of Africa.

Pirates are making headlines. And though their criminal acts might seem to belong to a dim past, they’re revealing some shocking truths about our 21st-century world.

That they are exposing the staggering lack of willpower in the world’s most powerful navy, we have already written. Stephen Flurry recently wrote about an astonishing example, in which Somalia pirates captured an oil tanker bound for America. The U.S. Navy knows where the ship is; it even has UN permission to chase it down. On top of that, as a retired Marine general put it, “the Navy would love to do it.” Only trouble is, he says, “there’s no stomach for it right now” (emphasis mine throughout).

The pirates are hearing that message loud and clear. They have since audaciously attacked an American cruise ship, one of 30 vessels they’ve gone after in just two months. They know good and well America has “no stomach” to stop them.

Biblical prophecy says this is exactly what would happen.

America’s broken will, however, isn’t the only prophetically relevant revelation emerging from these acts of piracy. It is also worth evaluating what is happening within two other nations in particular: Germany and Britain.

Germany’s response has been almost precisely opposite to America’s. The whole nation is up in arms. It is charging to the forefront of a European Union move to use piracy as justification for dramatically stepping up its naval power.

Last week, Europe’s foreign ministers launched the EU’s first-ever naval intervention, called Operation Atalanta. It is a huge step forward for the European Security and Defense Policy, a major instrument in giving Europe a unified military identity distinct from nato. In fact, Operation Atalanta will take over some of the anti-piracy duties that nato is already doing.

For some time, the German military has wanted to expand its authority to hunt pirates on the high seas, but has been hindered by legal constraints. Operation Atalanta circumvents these legal obstacles, since Germany’s constitution allows for such military activity within the context of a “system of collective security.” “The ‘robust’ operation that the German Navy has been hoping for, for so long, is now within reach,” German-Foreign-Policy.com says.

Berlin has approved deploying German warships to support the effort, granting them permission to fire in order to repel attacks. Still, military officials say Atalanta’s mandate is not broad enough, and they are asking for more: the authority to aggressively pursue pirates. These hawks have plenty of supporters in the German government. “Merely escorting ships is not enough. We must actively fight the pirates and above all take away their ships,” said Bundestag Defense Committee member Rainer Stinner. “There has to be a serious option to attack,” said Ulrike Merten, who heads the committee. The press and public agree. “Nearly unanimously, the media [are] calling for the Bundeswehr to operate as ‘robustly’ as possible against the pirates” (ibid.).

The situation is showing just how much the German public has overcome its skittishness about taking military action.

We’ve been watching Germany milk this same stratagem for years. Using a unified Europe as its cloak, and pointing to rising global security needs—some of which have been of its own making—Germany has gradually restored its legitimacy as a military power. You will be able to continue tracking this trend in the time ahead, as reasons for Berlin to expand its armed forces and increase its deployments multiply.

The prophetic significance of this development won’t be lost on our regular readers, nor even on students of Germany’s military history.

But perhaps most astonishing—particularly in light of Britain’s military history—has been the United Kingdom’s response to the Somalian piracy.

It appears Britain couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of joining Europe’s effort to fight Somali pirates, particularly since a Briton will be captaining it. “This initiative clearly demonstrates the EU’s determination to combat these criminal acts,” said Rear Adm. Phil Jones, whom the EU tapped to command the action. “It is also something of a privilege for the UK to be asked to lead such a milestone operation and it is an important step in reassuring the international shipping community that something is being done to protect our maritime interests.”

Here are a few reasons why that statement is so appalling.

Britain has already been fighting pirates off the coast of Somalia. Its frigate hms Cumberland has been deployed there under the nato umbrella. But it and three other nato vessels will now be replaced by the EU’s Operation Atalanta, including Britain’s hms Northumberland.

In essence, then, Britain is exchanging one frigate for another, expressly for the “privilege” of sailing for the first time under an EU flag, subject to EU political control!

In lieu of backing the Atlantic alliance, Britain is supporting the EU’s vainglorious effort to forge its own military identity—one that European leaders have openly stated is intended to check the power of Britain’s strongest ally, the United States. The UK acts like it can play both sides, but this approach is destined to hurt it in the end.

Yet here is where the story gets far worse.

Britain can hardly spare an extra ship. hms Northumberland is one of only seven British warships capable of deployment right now.

This frigate is actually being diverted to the Horn of Africa for Operation Atalanta—a mission to benefit Germany primarily. Before this came up, hms Northumberland was ready to head for the South Atlantic for six months—in order to secure the Falkland Islands.

Guess what happened the last time Britain reduced its naval presence there? It withdrew the ice patrol vessel hms Endurance from the seas around the Falklands in 1982. The Argentine military took the opportunity to invade. The Falklands War resulted.

The Falklands are a highly strategic sea gate guarding passage of sea traffic between the South Pacific and Southern Atlantic oceans and the Antarctic. Britain has claimed them since 1690 and defended its claim multiple times, in keeping with a prophecy that the end-time nations of Israel, of which Britain is a main one, would “possess the gate of his enemies” (read The United States and Britain in Prophecy). But prophecy also showed that a disobedient Britain would lose those gates (e.g. Deuteronomy 28:52). And so it has, one by one. Consequently, we have been watching for the Falklands to fall for some years.

Now, since the warship that Britain was going to send there will be tied up on an EU mission, it is sending a Royal Fleet Auxiliary landing ship with a crew of civilian sailors. The Telegraph reports, “Royal Navy sources have said that the ship would be able to do little more than protect itself in the event of an emergency.” Easy pickings, in other words, should anyone decide it’s finally time to pry the Falklands from British hands.

That Britain would choose the German-inspired piracy mission over protecting the Falklands is ghastly. “What on Earth are we doing putting EU flag-waving ahead of our own security priorities?” the Tory shadow defense secretary Liam Fox wrote in the Telegraph. Excellent question. “It is outrageous that the British government would ever diminish the protection of our strategic interests in order to pay homage to the politics of the EU,” he also said. A stunning example of Britain fulfilling a prophecy we spoke of a couple of weeks ago.

How far Britain has fallen from the days of Pax Britannia! The Royal Navy once forged the British Empire—it extended and defined British power around the world. Under Lord Salisbury, the law mandated that it be larger than the world’s next two largest navies combined!

Today’s Royal Navy is like that of the past only in name. At the time of the Falklands War, Britain had 65 frigates and destroyers. After years of defense budget cuts, today it has a mere 22, only a third of which can participate in operations at any one time. “The Royal Navy has been pared to the bone,” a senior naval source told the Telegraph. “In any shooting war with a serious enemy the Royal Navy would cease to exist within a few weeks.”

That the European Union is encouraging and hastening this process, exploiting the resources of the Royal Navy in order to extend its own military footprint, is especially insidious. The inevitability of Britain’s severance from the EU is becoming plainer all the time—an event biblical prophecy strongly indicates and which we have spoken of often. It appears Britain could well lose the Falklands while trying to please Europe—only to then lose Europe as well.

Those Somali pirates are only chasing after short-sighted, selfish gain. But their crimes are uncovering so much that biblical prophecy has directed us to watch for: a weak-willed America, a weakened Britain that will be stripped of its possessions, and a German-led Europe growing in military strength at their expense.

Valkyrie - German Resistance Suspense Thriller Is Coming

Need to promote latest film leads to apologies

In 2004, the Hollywood star made an infamous television appearance on the Today show in which he angrily sounded off about the “pseudoscience” of psychiatry and described host Matt Lauer as “glib”. The encounter prompted 10,000 viewer emails to the network.

Four years on, Cruise returned to the programme to cleared the air.

He said of the original interview: “I went back and looked at it and it was interesting… you know, it’s not what I had intended. Looking at myself, I thought, ‘Man, that came across as arrogant.’ It was one of those things where you go, ‘Ok, I could have absolutely handled that better.’ I didn’t communicated it the way that I wanted to communicate it. That’s not who I am, that’s not the person I am, coming across that way.”

On his controversial support for Scientology, the 46-year-old actor said he wouldn’t be talking about during movie interviews: “I’ve been a Scientologist for 25 years [but] I think there’s a time and a place for it because things can get misunderstood and twisted.”

Tom’s mouth is still on cruise control

VANCOUVER - Tom Cruise is clear on one thing: He is an entertainer.

The mercurial A-list actor admitted as much Monday morning on NBC’s Today Show, the scene of his infamous meltdown on live television. Well, one of his infamous meltdowns.

During a dark and aggressive rant about actor Brooke Shields’s use of anti-depressants three years ago when she was diagnosed with postpartum depression, Cruise turned on Today host Matt Lauer, castigating him for his ignorance of the evils of psychiatry and declaring him “glib.”

Consumer Alert: Scientology Quackery
Scientology is evil; its techniques are evil; its practice is a serious threat to the community, medically, morally, and socially; and its adherents are sadly deluded and often mentally ill… (Scientology is) the world’s largest organization of unqualified persons engaged in the practice of dangerous techniques which masquerade as mental therapy.

- Justice Anderson, Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia, quoted at What judges have to say about Scientology
Comments & resources by ReligionNewsBlog.com

Lauer said Monday that Today normally receives a few hundred e-mails after a celebrity interview, but about 10,000 people wrote in about the Cruise conniption.

Cruise returned for Round Two on Monday and was more contrite than crazy, at least during the interview. But if he was trying to present a more sane version of himself while promoting his new film Valkyrie, he probably shouldn’t have wandered on to Today’s live set before his interview to hijack the news segment of the program.

Cruise stood beside co-hosts Lauer and Meredith Vieira and began reading from the teleprompter as both Lauer and Vieira mentioned on-air that his behaviour was “bizarre.”

The world’s news services are surprisingly sympathetic to Cruise. Asked how people responded to his savage antics during his 2005 appearance on Today, Cruise launched into a rambling, sweaty response that would have induced squirming in a brass monkey.

Reuters reported it thusly: “After looking at it, I really thought it’s not what I intended. I thought in looking at myself that I came across as arrogant,” Cruise said. “I absolutely could have handled that better.”

The actual quote went more like this: “You know, I mean it was, I went back and I looked at and I thought you know . . . it was interesting. And I think that, I thought at first you kinda go how and why and I thought about it a lot, obviously, and I was, it was, a subject matter that’s important and now it’s being debated by the public and that’s where it should be. But actually after looking at it I really thought you know it’s not what I had intended, in looking at myself, that I thought that came across arrogant. That’s one of those things where you go, ‘I could have handled that better.’”

That in answer to the one question he knew he would face before going on the air. In rambling so, Cruise leaves the impression that he knows what he thinks, but doesn’t know how to hide it very well, an odd failing for an actor.

Cruise fared better on a visit with Jay Leno last week, but Leno didn’t mention Scientology, psychiatric meds or Brooke Shields.

KISS THE DOLLAR And JP Morgan GOOD-BYE!

December 16 - Gold $841.70 up $5.20 $16.60 - Silver $10.67 up 5 cents

JP Morgan In Big Trouble/Fed Printing In Effort To Keep Them Afloat/... Gold/Silver Fly

"If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack." … Winston Churchill, Sir (1874-1965)

The Money Changer -

Tuesday, 16 December a.d. 2008

Whoa! You men paying attention? Stand up where

you are, twist your body to the right, place your right

hand in your back pocket, withdraw your wallet, pull

out a green federal reserve note, lift it to your lips,

and KISS THE DOLLAR GOOD-BYE!

You women will have to fish in your purses ten

minutes to find your wallets, then dig out a

out a buck and kiss it good-bye.

Not only have the Fed & the Treasury executed a

coup d'etat & taken over the yankee government entire, the

Fed reduced the Fed Funds rate to 0.5%, lowest level

in history. But in case that doesn't work, they also have

yet another new strategy: "quantitative easing." That

is "Fedspeak" for printing money. Let the presses begin!

Let there be money, and let it flood the hills & valleys,

yea, let it flow into the shallowest pockets in the land,

& let the desert economy bloom!

Folks, if any of y'all yet cling to the "deflationary"

outcome, you had best let it go today. Although the

economic outcome will be depression, the monetary

outcome will be massive inflation, & quite likely,

hyperinflation. The dollar will evaporate, while silver &

gold will skyrocket, unless the laws of cause & effect

have been repealed by a compliant congress.

Gold closed at US$841.70, up 6.30, until the Fed announced

its "plans", sending gold up to US$861, another US$19.30.

Silver, which had closed up 8.5 cents to 1067.40 cents,

jumped 70 more cents to 1137 cents. The prices show for

gold & silver items below derive from those higher

aftermarket prices.

All bets are off, friends, for any sort of peaceful landing.

Every man for himself! Today your government & the

private corporation that controls the economy & the

money, the Federal Reserve, threw you, and the US dollar,

out of the boat, with an anvil tied to your feet. Every

one of us had better learn to swim.

FROM GATA

JUST IN … OK, here’s the latest on the coming JP Morgan blow up.

The information I sent your way yesterday was re-confirmed today. The lack of trust in the financial world over counterparty risk is "accelerating." This is forcing "remaining contracts" of all kinds, especially in the Over The Counter markets, to be "settled."

What is stressed to me is that it is a "currency" problem … so I did my best to nail that down. It has to do with the dollar, US interest rates, AND gold and silver, which represent a SUBSTANTIAL part of the JP Morgan derivatives book … and it is TRILLIONS and TRILLIONS … the magnitude of the problem is that large.

JP Morgan, the Fed’s bank supposedly can’t handle it, so the US Government is stepping in … and the only way the Fed can handle the GROWING problem, is to PRINT money. BUT, they can’t PRINT the money fast enough.

And yes ... this a major reason why the dollar is suddenly falling apart. If I, WE, know … much of the BIG MONEY has to know and they are dumping dollars as fast as they can, ergo the dollar is TANKING, and will continue to tank.

The Madoff mess, and $50 billion catastrophic loss, could not come at a worse time for the US Government and JP Morgan. Our government knows they CANNOT let Morgan fail and they are going all out to prevent that from happening. However, the Madoff scandal, and loss of capital, has those fearful of counterparty risk problems accelerating their exit from dealings with Morgan and other US institutions, in which they have dollar based, counterparty contracts. It is so bad that word to me is that the US cannot "waste time" on the relatively insignificant Madoff "disintermediation" nightmare, the JP Morgan problem is so MONSTROUS … because disintermediation is spreading like a horrible, malignant cancer and the numbers are mounting daily.

So, what are we left with? Bernanke’s helicopter drill is NOW in effect. The problem is Bernanke needs B-47’s or some gorilla plane like that. We have talked about this sort of scenario in MIDAS for some time. Well, we are here for sure and it is in play (Bill H and others have been all over this).

What will be critical for JP Morgan to stay afloat is for the Fed to be able to print money fast enough to meet the demand of those closing out contracts with Morgan.

The bottom line: HYPERINFLATION is upon us, or the eve of hyperinflation is.

As far as I know, no one else out there is delving into the JP Morgan mess. The insiders are trying to keep this horror show as quiet as possible.

One more thing, I asked my source about "settling" in regards to gold and silver contracts. Let the shorts cover I said. To cover anywhere near here, after THEY forced the prices down and caused billions of dollars of spec losses, would be more than just a travesty of justice, It would open the potential for hundreds of billions of lawsuits for what would be clear cut fraud by the concentrated shorts who took the market down the past many months. It is one thing to have gold go $1500 bid overnight (or in a few weeks) and silver go $30 bid, and then declare a force majeure (unable to deliver for unforeseen reasons) after letting the free markets play out until there is a legitimate reason WHY something HAS be done. It is another to force settlement of gold and silver contracts in what Dennis Gartman calls a BEAR MARKET!

Now, I am not saying that this gold/silver settle scenario is in the cards at this point in time, so don’t go running to the CFTC, and others, and raise a ruckus, it is just something to be aware of. In the meantime, it seems to me that owning as much gold, silver and the shares is the way to go. That’s where my head is.

GATA BE IN IT TO WIN IT! We Love You GATA & Franklin! Thanks A Bunch!

To Quell the Deception, Is To Distinguish Its Ploys

The Talmud, the Stock Market and Bernie the Goniff

by Michael Hoffman
Copyright © 2008. All Rights Reserved

Bernard L. Madoff has run off with the store so to speak -- the store of cash that is, which Judaics from Steven Spielberg to Elie Wiesel had stashed with this agent of of the world's second oldest profession, whose patron is that hoary old rascal who Shakespeare dubbed Shylock and the am-haaretz on the Lower East Side call the goniff.

I hesitated writing this column because the acolytes of Wilhelm Marr are coming out of the woodwork pointing to the Judaic ethnicity of Madoff, as if there are not a legion of gentile crooks and con-men running amok in the stock market these days, fleecing peasantry and gentry from coast to coast. A crook is a crook, whether Catholic, Hindu or Talmudic, and in my view they should all be hanged with an equal length of rope.

Madoff's enormous heist (do my eyes deceive me when I grok the sum of $50 billion?!), interests this newshound precisely because it undercuts a stereotype of the Jew-haters: that Judaics are always the "smart money," evincing a fiduciary adhesion surpassing the strongest bonding agents in Das Kapital's marketplace: always robbing gentiles and profiting communally from the rip-off.

This sub-cellar stereotype is actually misdirection emanating from a resonance of rabbinic propaganda that has been covertly seeded in right wing ranks ever since Hitler chose the Protocols over Entdecktes Judenthum as his movement's signature reference work.

Contemporary professional anti-semites push a post-modern version of this disinformation when they maintain that Judaism, or its potent offshoots, Judaic culture and tribalism, always defraud gentiles while enriching Judaics. This is sheerest ignorance reflecting a sound-bite knowledge --of the little bit is dangerous variety -- of the posek's sacred Torah SheBeal Peh.

Contrary to the received opinion, Judaism is not good for Judaics. Any religion that inculcates cheating God is going to end up having its followers cheat each other. They may cheat the gentiles first, but sooner or later they'll give each other a haircut too, and not just on Lag B'omer.

Judaism runs the gamut from one-upmanship over God to the enslavement of married couples by the torturous and labyrinthine halachos of Niddah (laws on menstruation). S'iz shver tsu zayn a yid ("It's no fun being a Judaic" --my translation).

It is certainly true that Orthodox Judaism teaches that under certain circumstances, the Neshama HaElyonah-deficient subhumanity otherwise known as the goyim are fair game for every imaginable theft and deception.

Furthermore, Orthodox Judaism holds that even God can be fooled through the superior brain-power of the lawyer-like posek ha-dor. Kol Nidrei is but one of many institutionalized examples of a lawyer's loophole created so as to defraud God of promises that were made to be broken.

Business ethics are equally compromised. Honesty is not highly prized in Judaism if it threatens the standing of the rabbis or the fortunes of the tribe. The creepy Khazars who ran the kashrut slaughterhouse in Iowa are only the most recent example of this praxis.

In William N. Grimstad's magisterial, book-length flight of Celinean prose, Talk About Hate, (Colorado, 1994), he offers the world-historic insight that Judaism's "officially sanctioned covert practice" and "contempt for us gullible marks" leads to the "inevitable moral abasement that this sort of treachery fosters in its practitioners."

Judaism does not entail only deceiving non-Judaics; at its core it is deeply enmeshed in a gigantic web of self-deception. Shoel U'Meishiv: a Judaic defendant bribes a gentile judge not for the sake of evading a just sentence but only where a judge would otherwise pronounce "an incorrect ruling." BT Sanhedrin 54b and BT Ketubot 11b: when a Judaic male has intercourse with a little boy under the age of nine, it's not sodomy, because it's not a "significant" act since, by the Gemara's own definition, sodomy with a boy under the age of nine cannot be sodomy. Mishnah Nedarim 3:1: "He who desires that none of his vows made during the year shall be valid, let him stand at Rosh haShanah and declare, 'Every vow which I make in the future shall be cancelled."

The goniff Bernie Madoff is not a renegade. He is the terminal Talmudic man that the Jewish self-haters who created Judaism have constructed from the golden calf which they have worshipped in preference to Yahweh, for more than 3,000 years. Bernie's prodigious swindle proves a point which this writer has been making against intense opposition from the Henry Ford wing of the Right: the biggest victims of Judaism are not gentiles but Judaics themselves. That's why the world's most virulent Judaic-haters, the Protestant fundamentalists and the modern Vatican pontiffs, encourage Judaics to remain in their synagogues, while exalting Orthodox Judaism as truly representative of a divine and eternal covenant.

As a function of Judaism itself, Madoff has brought misery down upon the heads of his fellow Judaics. For those who have eyes to see: "anti-semitism" was borrowed from Wilhelm Marr in order to disguise the long history of this communitarian torment.

To understand this paradox will require a paradigm-shift away from everything the agents of the rabbis have seeded in our ranks for hundreds of years. The words of truth are often paradoxical: those who would save Judaics from the Madoffs of the world must necessarily save them from Judaism itself.

Contrary to the bubbe meises told to the bochurim, the Esau who hates Jacob for all eternity ("Halacha hi beyoduah she'Eisav soneh l'Yaakov"), is not the authentic follower of Yeshua the Nazarene; rather he is the authentic exponent of the Misheh Torah and the Mishneh Berurah.

Ethical behavior ("mitzvos bei Adam L'Chavero") is so often found lacking in Talmudic business practices contracted even between Talmudists. The man who will cheat God and the gentiles who sustain the nation that harbors him, will cheat his co-religionists with equal impunity, as Yeshiva University, the Elie Wisel Foundation for Humanity, Norman Levy, the UJA, Mortimer Zuckerman, the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, Rabbi Haskel Lookstein's Ramaz School, the Jewish Community Centers Association of North America, the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation, the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach, SAR Academy, and Spielberg's Wunderkinder Foundation, are all learning to their dismay.

A ready means of destroying Judaics would be to suppress any violence or vandalism against them and leave them to rabbinic Judaism. Without an "anti-semitic" alibi to distract them from their religiously-institutionalized penchant for self-destruction, the Bernie Madoffs of their world would channel their inner-Esaus and reduce Judaism's adherents to a collection of feuding bankrupts.

Only a lover of Judaics would endeavor to dissuade them from their toxic and self-annihilating theology, society and culture which generates predators possessed of the dizzying manipulative skill, remorseless mercantilism and "inevitable moral abasement that this sort of treachery fosters in its practitioners" of a Bernard L. Madoff.

Old City Of Jerusalem To Become City State Like Vatican City: The Special Regime in Jerusalem Will Soon Be Unveiled

Disclaimer:
Hold on to your knickers!

Don't get your panties in a wad!
And for goodness sake don't kill the messenger!!!!!!!!!!

Other sources that I am not at liberty to quote here are implying strongly that the "Secret Agreement" Tony Blair mentioned on December 7, 2008 and the other sources that have indicated that Annapolis WAS NOT a failure are pointing to one end and one end only:

The Old City Of Jerusalem Is To Become A City State

The July 2008 Newsletter at the Jerusalem Old City Initiative website, which was just recently released in NOVEMBER, has indicated that the Jerusalem Old City Initiative, which was a birthing tangent along side of Bill Clintons' The Holy Sites Initiatives, are still ongoing and are coming to its end of final reports.

The Summer 2008 Jerusalem Old City Initiative newsletter can be seen here

As I pondered as to why NO PRESS has reported The University Of Windsor's, Canada JOCI movements (insert Compartmentalization divide and conquer game plan here) I decided to check back and see if I "missed" anything. Well apparently another report dated 7-29-07 gave some light as to why this initiative is not dead in the waters but rather alive and kicking.

A Plan For Governance In A Special Regime In Jerusalem

At Clause 3.1 I found this snippet:

"The creation of a separate international entity (along the lines of a Monaco type
or even Vatican type state) would offer distinct advantages, not least in terms of
the application and enforcement of a legal system that differs from the present
one, and also for dispute resolution..."

The Jerusalem Special Regime Area will not be limited to the Old City of Jerusalem. That's right, Bill Clinton' s Holy Sites initiatives and other like minded folks like Rabbi David Rosen will be there also. See the Rabbi's thoughts on this matter.

So the questions arise:

Although a City State governing body will exist, who will have the ultimate governing powers?
What country entity is going to have the most influence?
Which para military corp will enforce its laws to its residents?
Will a new religious belief system comprise the New Jerusalem Old City State?
Will news of "Jerusalem City" finally nail the paradoxical Middle East Peace?

And finally, WHO will ultimately get credit for this Really Keen Idea?

The last of the commissioned reports are due very soon (we'll probably see them in February09'):

Governance Discussion Document (Fall 2008)
Holy Sites Working Group Report (Winter 2008)
Dispute Resolution Report (Winter 2008)

I pray I am absolutely 100% wrong on this and I hope this is not old hat for some of you.

I now return to my Sunday football viewing, chasing TV cheerleaders and gorging on my Truckers diet of Cheetos, Slim Jim's and chocolate milk.
